Proposal Prep
How to ensure your friend gets their nails done before the big day.
It’s the week of the proposal. Your best friend (the one who is about to be sporting a new ring) is clueless–right where you want them. And the responsibility of making sure their nails are done has fallen to you. It’s a “not all heroes wear capes” kind of task with a delicate dance between being too pushy and giving away the secret, and failing to get them to the salon. Now although we specialize in making the engagement rings of your dreams we also know a thing or two about a solid proposal. And the last thing we want to see is a Shahla Cloud Cushion Ring, Scarpa Emerald Olivetti Frame Ring, Ando Marquise Sloping Semi-Bezel Ring or dream custom ring next to a chipped manicure. Here are our suggestions on how to get even the most stubborn friends into that much-needed nail appointment.
1. The Tough Work Week
A great approach for the former theater kids. It’s time to act–or as some people say, “lie.” Tell them a sob story about how tough work has been lately. Your crazy coworker, Greg, has done it again and the only thing that will make you feel better is a jaunt to the nail salon. Any best friend would quickly agree.
2. The Subtle Insult
“Your nails are super grown out.” Sure it’s hurtful, but when that four carat ring gets slapped on their hand later that week your insult will be a thing of the past.
3. The Catch Up
We love to hear, “I miss you, let’s catch up.” It’s the text that makes us smile on the subway, the message that gets us to cancel other plans to see the bestie, and the note that gets the fiancé-to-be in front of the nail tech.
4. The Surprise Haters
Sure, they said not to tell them about the proposal, but this is the friend who reads the last few pages of a book before starting it. It’s the friend that knows what they're ordering for dinner before they've even stepped foot in the restaurant. It’s the friend that has a panic attack when you send them a text that says, “I have news.” Ruin the surprise. They will be grateful and their nails, outfit, and hair will look iconic.
5. The Kidnapping
It’s the convertible pull up with a tasteful “it’s Britney, b$tch.” Whether they're eating dinner, watching tv, or halfway through an everything shower–they're getting their nails done. It’s a hard sell on introverts, but worth the push.
6. The Pressed for Time
Their schedule is crazy and yours isn’t so light either–cut to press ons. SALT Nails to be exact. This newly launched company makes press ons that have a variety of neutral hues and artistic designs that will pair with “happily ever after vibes” perfectly. Grab a pair for yourself and the fiancé-to-be so it feels less suspicious.
Now that the nails are polished, and hopefully the surprise still intact, it's time for a freshly laundered partner to get down on one knee with a Shahla ring in hand.
