He Said // She Said: Thomas & Nancy
On this year's winter solstice, it is only fitting that we share Thomas and Nancy's love story. These two fell in love a little over a year ago and tied the knot this past October in a small ceremony, with the single word SOLSTICE engraved inside each gold band. Today, they were supposed to have a bigger ceremony with both of their families, but have decided to hold off until the new year. We thought the best way we could help them celebrate is by featuring their love on their original nuptial day. We hope you enjoy :-)
HE SAID:
How did you meet Nancy?
We matched on both Hinge and The League
How long have you been together?
A little over a year.
Where was your first date?
Our first date was at Katana Kitten.
What was your first impression of Nancy?
I arrived late and was jogging across the street when I saw her beautiful smile. It was extra striking because she had every right to be impatient with me. She had me with that smile and that's why I chose that spot to propose to her.
Who said I love you first / when did you know you loved Nancy?
Nancy said this first but I felt it as well.
Tell us about the proposal in your own words.
I wanted the proposal to be something that was unique and special for the two of us but also something celebrated with our loved ones. My goal was to make her feel extra special over and over. It took me a long time to decide on a location but I kept coming back to the feeling I had when I first saw her smile. It's the feeling I still enjoy when she enters a room or comes home from work. That's how I landed on proposing at Katana Kitten where our first date took place. I planned out the entire day starting with scheduling a good friend who is a photographer to hide across the street to capture the moment. However, in true NYC fashion, as we approached the location, a huge delivery truck parked between Taylor and the special spot. I tried to stall but Nancy realized where we were so I just went for it. Fortunately, Taylor made his way into the street and captured Nancy's smile as she said yes. The rest of the day was a series of surprises where I had her parents and best friend secretly waiting at brunch for us and then in the evening I again surprised her with a group of friends waiting in the park with champagne and dessert to celebrate. It was the perfect day!
What is Nancy's biggest quirk?
She's truly terrible at keeping a surprise. If she has something planned her eyes and smile give it away immediately. She just gets so excited that she can't keep it bottled up inside.
We know how much you and Nancy love rock climbing, what's another activity you enjoy doing together?
We love to cook together. During the Covid-19 lockdown, we've spent a lot of time finding new recipes and cooking really delicious meals.
What is the best / most memorable gift Nancy has ever given you?
Nancy is incredibly generous and thoughtful. Her gifts often involve us doing something together or sharing an experience which we both enjoy.
It's no secret that you have an eye for design - does Nancy have any hidden talents we should know about?
She is quite adventurous - most notably rock climbing.
SHE SAID:
How did you meet Thomas?
Online, we matched on two dating sites. He is the first person I ever reached out to on a dating site.
How long have you been together?
1 yr 5 months
Where was your first date?
Katana Kitten.
What was your first impression of Thomas?
He was a great listener and had very specific questions for a first date which I found cute and appreciated that he seemed to have some non-negotiable things he was looking for.
Who said I love you first / when did you know you loved Thomas?
Me. I started to fall in love with him on our first road trip together which watching him sing along to Dave Matthews in the car.
Tell us about the proposal in your own words.
We had a wedding already planned for December so I knew a proposal would be coming soon. I was still surprised on the day he proposed. We had a very specific day full of errands planned so I did not really process the proposal was likely on that day. As we were walking by Katana Kitten to “meet some friends for brunch” I kept trying to point the bar out to him but he seemed distracted. I quickly realized he was distracted because he was about to propose and was looking out for a friend (our photographer) who was across the street but his view was completely blocked by a USPS truck that pulled up right in front of us blocking his view. The day was full of surprises. My parents and my best friend was waiting for me at brunch minutes after the proposal and the day ended with a great party at Ft Greene park with our closest friends.
What is Thomas' biggest quirk?
Hmmmm. He cannot have anything out on the kitchen counters. He’s very sensitive to clutter there.
We know how much you and Thomas love rock climbing, what's another activity you enjoy doing together?
Cooking, looking at home decor/architecture insta’s, talking about plants.
What is the best / most memorable gift Thomas has ever given you?
Honestly - my engagement ring. I love how thoughtful he was about it and how he asked me no questions and kept it a complete surprise. If that answer is too lame/obvious my second favorite gift was tickets to a Lumineers concert for my bday in Nov and the concert was in Feb 14. I appreciated that he knew we would still be together then despite only dating a few months and that he secured himself a Valentines date.
It's no secret Thomas has an eye for design - does he have any other talents we should know about?
He’s such a good planner of things - whether its a party or trips. He has spreadsheets upon spreadsheets with tons of possibilities and details.
