Marrying Metals, Reviving Icons

The Designer Reissue continues with the reissue of TARA 4779’s Percentage Rings

Inspired by the limited-edition vinyl reissues I fell in love with during my decade in the music industry and high fashion’s archival revivals—I created The Designer Reissue Series as a way to honor and reintroduce iconic pieces from three art-house designers, all of whom are personal friends.

We kicked things off on April 1st with Beth Macri’s acclaimed Letter Pendants—a cult classic that redefined personalization in jewelry.

Now, I’m thrilled to announce the next installment, the reissue of TARA 4779’s Percentage Rings, launched today.

TARA 4779 Reissued - May 1st, 2025

Tara Elwin, the designer behind TARA 4779, infuses her reissue with equal parts technical craftsmanship and emotional storytelling. Her focus is on the Percentage Rings – a series of slim, minimalist bands divided between two metals (yellow or rose gold and white gold) in precise ratios. She calls the painstaking process of fusing these metals her “marrying of metals” technique, and it’s as romantic as it sounds: one metal gradually yields to the other, creating a seamless bond. This approach is labor-intensive (the fusion requires great care to get a perfect join) but also emotionally resonant – the finished ring is a tangible metaphor for unity and balance.

Each Percentage Ring is named for its metal proportions, and each ratio carries a deeper meaning, which Tara has imbued into the design:

50-50: Represents balance, compromise, and commitment
25-75: Symbolizes dedication and progress toward a goal
10-90: Marks the birth of possibility

Tara’s art-house sensibility turns these numbers into poetry. The equal halves of the 50-50 ring, for instance, make it a popular choice to signify partnership – even as unconventional wedding bands – while the 10-90 ring’s tiny sliver of color against a sea of white evokes that spark of an idea taking hold. Reissuing these rings now, in limited batches, feels especially timely. In an age that values personal meaning, wearing a Percentage Ring is like wearing a quiet reminder of one’s own commitments or aspirations. I’ve been spotted stacking her 50-50 ring with other favorites, its mixed-metal glow standing out just enough to invite curiosity. The beauty of Tara 4779’s reissue is that it’s both elegantly modern and steeped in symbolism – jewelry as a personal mantra.
